Background Rates

Age standardized background rates

The following age standardized incidence rates were calculated by standardizing incidence rates against the age distribution according to WHO:

Autoimmune hepatitis
Anaphylaxis
Bells palsy
Convulsion
Demyeliniation
Encephalitis
Guillain‐Barré Syndrome
Optical neuritis
Transverse myelitis
Thrombocytopenia
Sudden death.
Vasculitis

Since one country did not have data available below the age of 10, age standardized rates were provided below age of 10 and above age of 10. The tables below show age standardized incidence rates of ESIs across all calendar years and assuming a one year run-in period. The incidence rates vary considerably between countries.

Age standardized incidence rates for persons below 10 years

These results are not yet final and should be used and interpreted with caution. Data from Finland and Norway are not person level data, and each visit for an event will be counted again. Data from Netherlands have been validated for some events and should be viewed as being at the lower range of estimates. Some countries submitted but are still reviewing their data and data extraction procedures.
